Golf Tip of the Month by PGA Pro Andrew Gurney
Improve your Golf
This month’s focus is in on chipping.
The key part of the movement that I’m focusing on this month is the “triangle” made between your shoulders, arms and hands made at address.
Step 1 Below is an image of the correct chipping setup with hands ahead of the golf ball. The shoulders, arms and hands make a “y” shape. Notice I also have a little more weight on my left side at address.
Step 2 Next up you can see how I’ve maintained the triangle that I made at address as I take the club away from the ball. I’ve allowed the clubface to rotate open as I’ve taken the club back and I’ve kept my legs nice and quiet.
Step 3 “The Moment of truth”- Impact. Once more the triangle has been maintained. A key factor here is that I’ve got my hands ahead of the ball at impact (as I strike the ball). This is a key element for a solid strike.
Step 4 The Job is done here, however the triangle created with my arms, shoulders and hands at address has still been maintained, which shows that I haven’t tried to scoop or help the ball into the air..
